Yes, there is a system of trains of short distance traffic , named Ferrocarrils . This gets you to the small towns or villages outside of Barcelona. From plaza Catalunya two main lines start, Metro del Valls and Linia de Balmes .Those trains are not part of the Metro, so you've got to buy extra tickets.
